To begin, you have to first learn to ride. Horsemanship is just one of
the skills required to become a good player and it has to be taken for granted if you want to become a serious player. You need to develop a keen eye for the ball as in no other sport is it so difficult to make a
simple connection because of the moving horse. This is done on a wooden horse under the guidance of an experienced instructor. It is very important to clean up your swing before picking up the mallet on
a live horse as you might hurt not only yourself, but also the poor animal.
However, the first prerequisite remains a ''king size' heart and the second one, a pocket to match. Once you have learnt the basics, you
have to go in for your own horses. Very few regular players play on club horses which are invariably in short supply. With regular practice, one can start playing practice-chukkers in a few months.
